Independent Medical Examinations

An Independent Medical Examination or IME is a specialized examination and report, ideally performed by a medical physician with special training and experience in the field of Independent Medical Examinations. Generally the examination is suggested by an interested party. This could be the treating physician, insurance company , employer, attorney or some other party interested in the care of the individual.

The examiner is a medical professional, who is not involved in the care of the examinee’s injury. No doctor-patient relationship exists as a result of the examination. The examiner is independent  and  arrives at his/her own diagnosis and opinions without consideration of bias, referring source, remuneration or  other’s opinions.

The examiner will often use guidelines to suggest further treatment or to address the issues of the concerned party(s).
